Parallelspace eMail 2.0 Evaluation Guide

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. After I download and install Parallelspace eMail 2.0, I don't see anything.  What has happened?

Answer: Downloading and installing a Groove tool causes that tool to be installed and then added to the Add Tool tool in each of your existing shared spaces as well as any new shared spaces you create.

If you were a previous Parallelspace eMail 1.2 user, Parallelspace eMail 2.0 installs as a new item in Add Tool tool.  Parallelspace eMail 2.0 doesn't replace or update your existing Parallelspace eMail 1.2 tools.  The reason for this is that we didn't want to automatically replace what you already have without you having control.  To use version 2.0, simply delete your previous eMail 1.2 tool and add the the new version 2.0 tool to your space.

  2. Where does Parallelspace eMail store my email? Is it stored in a shared space?

Answer: Parallelspace eMail accesses your calendar, contacts, email and tasks by communicating with the copy of Outlook installed on your computer. Parallelspace eMail works this way to insure the privacy and security of your personal information. Parallelspace eMail does not copy any of your calendar entries, contacts, emails or tasks to a tool in a shared space unless you specifically copy these items yourself.

To copy one or more emails, calendar entries, contacts or tasks to a Groove tool in a shared space, use the Courier button on the eMail toolbar to copy the Outlook items to any of the “Top 5” Groove tools (Calendar, Contacts, Discussion, Files and Notepad).

  3. If I use Parallelspace eMail in a shared space to view my calendar, contacts, email and tasks, can other members of the shared space also see my personal calendar, contacts, email tasks?

Answer: No. Each person will see their calendar, contacts, email and tasks for the email accounts that are configured on their particular machine. The other members of the shared space can not see your personal information. They will only be able to see their own Outlook data.

  4. If my Groove account is installed on multiple computers using the Groove multiple computer account (MCA) feature, will I be able to view my Outlook eMail from both computers.

Answer: No. This release of Parallelspace eMail 2.0 doesn’t store your calendar, contacts or email in Groove storage. Parallelspace eMail will display the email accounts and folders that are configured on each particular computer. To have the same calendar, contacts and email data available on each of your MCA computers, make sure Outlook is configured with the same group of email accounts.

In Professional Edition, the Courier feature can be used to copy any calendar, contact, email message or task item to a tool in a Groove shared space.

  5. Does Parallelspace eMail use Groove encrypted storage?

Answer: Parallelspace eMail only uses Groove encrypted storage when the Courier feature is explicitly used to copy one or more calendar, contact, email or task items from Outlook to Groove. Other than this scenario, your personal information remains in Outlook’s local OST and PST files or on your email service depending on your Outlook email account configuration. Parallelspace eMail does not keep a separate copy of your calendar, contact, email or task items in Groove storage or elsewhere.

  6. Why do Groove users need an integrated email tool?

Answer: This is a question of user convenience and user preference.
There is a strong tendency for people who use Groove to begin to “live in Groove” and with that tendency, the need to have access to all of your personal, group, corporate and external information. Parallelspace eMail 2.0 is the first of a series of Parallelspace Groove solutions that is addressing this need for a fully integrated Groove Workspace environment.

  7. Parallelspace eMail 2.0 downloads properly and appears in the Add Tools tool in my shared space but when I try to add eMail 2.0 to a shared space, I get a Groove error.  What is the cause?

Answer: The most frequent cause of this problem is not having Outlook 2002/XP installed with the most recent Microsoft Office XP service pack.  The latest Office service packs are available from the Microsoft Office website: http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx.

The initial release of Parallelspace eMail 2.0 is not compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2000.

  8. Which versions of Groove workspace is Parallelspace eMail compatible with?

Answer: Parallelspace eMail 2.0 is compatible with Groove Workspace 2.1 as well as the 2.0, 2.1 and 2.5 versions of the "Top 5" Groove tools: Calendar, Contacts, Discussion, Files and Notepad.

Parallelspace eMail 2.0 is compatible with the beta release of Groove Workspace 2.5 and the Groove Mobile Workspace for SharePoint.  Final testing will be completed when Groove Networks releases the final version of Groove 2.5 in early 2003.

  9. After I uninstall Groove Workspace, my copy of Outlook complains that it can't find Redemption.dll. What is happening and how can I fix this?

Answer: The source of the problem is that Groove Workspace doesn't not have a feature that allows 3rd party Groove tools to uninstall themselves when Groove itself is uninstalled.

To work around this specific problem with the Redemption.dll, use the following steps to tell Outlook to stop using this DLL:

    1. In Outlook, select Tools -> Options.  The following dialog box should appear.  Click the Advanced tab.
    2. On the above dialog box, click the Advanced Options button and the following dialog box will appear.
    3. In the above dialog box, click the Add-In Manager button. The following dialog box will appear.
    4. In the above dialog box, uncheck all the entries for the Redemption Helper Outlook Extension.
    5. Click OK three times.
